In 2020, Little Urchin established a basic research center, recruiting a number of highly skilled researchers with bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from universities such as Shandong Agricultural University, China Agricultural University, Nanjing Agricultural University, and Sichuan Agricultural University. The current R&D team consists of 15 people specializing in pet nutrition and palatability research.

The team focuses on fundamental theoretical research and practical application in canine and cat nutrition science, canine and cat life sciences, canine and cat coat health management, raw material science and safety, precision nutrition formulations, fine chemical and applied chemical production processes, packaging technology, and industry regulations to support product innovation and development.

Equipped with a state-of-the-art physical and chemical testing center and sterile laboratory, the team conducts comprehensive physical and chemical analysis of raw materials and finished products, as well as pesticide residue and microbial testing, providing strong support for product development and quality control.
